About this matchbox
The Hotel Landa de Burgos has been a legendary stop for decades on the route to northern Spain and France. I've passed by there a thousand times with my family, which is why I couldn't resist taking this matchbox for my collection. It began in 1959 as a small restaurant on the road, with its traditional cuisine featuring an iconic dish "fried eggs with blood sausage".
A few years later, in 1964, they expanded the business by opening a hotel whose centerpiece is a 14th-century tower, an original defensive tower from Albillos, which was dismantled and relocated stone by stone to its current location to house the unique rooms and suites. It also has an iconic neo-Gothic indoor pool that you will love.
And as a random anecdote: it was visited by Audrey Hepburn in the 60s when her husband Mel Ferrer was filming in Spain.
