This matchbox belonged to the Hotel Bad Balgach, a family-run establishment located in northeastern Switzerland. Although the hotel has disappeared, the building still stands and according to my research, it is a historic house over 170 years old although it has been renovated and expanded in recent years to incorporate modern architectural elements.

The building has barely changed in terms of its facade but has changed hands and uses. It was a former spa surrounded by vineyards and for generations one of the most important meeting points in Balgach.

Even though I haven't obtained a literal photo of the hotel, I love how this does not represent the origin or the end but an intermediate frame of a building whose documented history dates back to 1834.
