This matchbox belonged to the Hotel Bad Balgach, a family-run establishment located in the northeast of Switzerland. Although the hotel has disappeared, the building still stands and according to my findings, it is a historic house over 170 years old although it has been renovated and expanded in recent years to incorporate modern architectural elements.

The building has hardly changed in terms of its facade, but it has changed hands and uses. It was an old spa surrounded by vineyards and for generations one of the most important meeting points in Balgach.

Although I haven't managed to get a literal photo of the hotel, I love how this one represents neither the beginning nor the end but an intermediate frame of a building whose documented history dates back to 1834.
