Memnon Cruises / Memnon Tours was an Egyptian tourism company dedicated to cruises on the Nile and trips between historic cities such as Cairo, Luxor, and Aswan. The name Memnon may possibly refer to the Colossi of Memnon, two giant stone statues located on the west bank of the Nile, near Luxor (ancient Thebes), in Egypt.

My intention was to find some photographic/advertising reference of the boats that appeared in the matchbox. I found a file with naval/hotel projects that did include some of the boats mentioned in the context of ownership by Memnon Cruises: Nile Smile (1987), Nile Smart (1989), Nile Elegant (1990), and Nile Elite (1992). I did not find photographs of any of these vessels, but I did come across some photographs of a ship acquired by the company in 1996 called "Regina Maris".

Since the ship "Regina Maris" is not mentioned in the box, I have the audacity to narrow down the years of this matchbox between 1992 and 1996.
